1.            Daniel Hendricks (buried McCorkle Cemetery) and MacMahan (or McMahon) Excursus

2.           Benjamin Huie of Cabarrus County, NC, then Newbern, Tennessee, 1798-1879, died at the home of his son Joseph G. Huie (buried in Poplar Grove Cumberland Presbyterian Cemetery just east of Newbern).  Benjamin’s father was James Huie of North Carolina.  Virginia Jantz, genealogist, thought the Huie grandfather of Benjamin Huie was probably George Huie of North Carolina but could not prove it.

3.           A Catherine Huie, Daughter of a James Huie [we know Benjamin Huie’s father was a James Huie] married MAJOR JAMES E Kerr in  1833 in Salisbury, NC

4.            Huie-McEachran: Mrs. Peter Huie = Mrs. John McEachran

5.            `````An Alexander Huie married Elizabeth McEachran, daughter of John McEachran.  An Elizabeth Huie married Hector McEachran.

The following HENDRICKS EXCURSUS is of interest to Joyce Cope Huie and her two children Sophie and Marsha and two grandchildren Jessica and Hunter Cashdollar and one great-grandson PLC Blackwell; and to many other Hendricks Descendants

This is a daughter of Daniel Hendricks and Isabel Pen(d)ry Hendricks  of NC then Dyer County, Tennessee, who were also parents of Daniel Roland Hendricks; and parents of Uriah C. Hendricks, Uriah being Joyce Huie’s ancestor:

HENDRICKS, TEMPERANCE married WILLIAM O. CHAFFIN ON FEBRUARY 13, 1829   iN ROWAN COUNTY BY CASWELL HARBIN. MARCH 3, 1829.

In other words, Temperance Hendricks Chaffin was a sister to Uriah C. Hendricks.  This is a bit confusing, because Uriah C. Hendricks’ 2^nd wife was TEMPERANCE (MacMAHON) (widow Bean) Hendricks; Tempe Bean and Uriah C. Hendricks married in Dyer County, Tennessee, but Joyce Huie thought they married up in Indiana (?) .  His 1^st and 2^nd wives were sisters.  His 1^st wife was Mary “Polly” MacMahan or MacMahon, and Uriah C. Hendricks then of Rowan County, NC, married Mary MacMahan in 1833 in Clermont County, Ohio. Evidently her folks had moved up to Ohio Territory by then.

RODDY, MRS. MARY AND MAJOR A. H. SNEED married in WASHINGTON, GEORGIA.  NO DATE GIVEN. FEBRUARY 3, 1829.  – Recall:  Violet or Viola B. Roddy married James “Jimpse” Scott and one of their children was “Sade” Sarah Elizabeth Scott (Mrs. Julius M. Huie), Sade living from 1839 to 1893.  Sade is buried in the McCorkle Cemetery, Dyer County.

TAYLOR, MARY AND ALEXANDER GRAHAM married on JANUARY 29, 1829 –One of William McCorkle’s wives, his 3^rd   , was née Jane or Jennie Graham.

Huie-McEachran: Mrs. Peter Huie = Mrs. John McEachran.  I don’t know what this means, who these people were in relation to my Benjamin Huie of NC.

I think the following should be spelled McEachran.  If so, the documents reveal that Alexander Huie married Elizabeth McEachran, daughter of John McEachran.

May the 27th 1794--Received of the administrators of my father John McCachran the gift and full sum of 25 pounds, 10 shillings, 1 pence in part of my share of my said father's estate.  I say received by me.  Elizabeth McCachren (mark)  --  [Is this Mrs. Alexander Huie?]

We John McClillan and Robert Harris are hereto formally bound unto Hezekiah Alexander, Esquire, Chairman of the County Court of Pleas and Quarter Sessions held for the county of Mecklinburg in the sum of one hundred pounds currency to be paid by us to the said justices or their

Receipt for Mrs. Peter Huie’s share of her estate of her deceased husband John McEachran’s estate.  Mrs. Peter Huie was Mary ____(Mrs. John McEachran) (then Mrs. Peter Huie). One of John McEachran’s daughters was Katherine McEachran.

[1791:  by this time, Peter Huie of Meclenburg County, NC, had married Mary ____ (Mrs.John McEachran).]

“ Received August the 6th 1791 by me Peter Huie of Mecklenburg County and state of North Carolina (now husband to Mary the widow of John McCachran) of William Harris, John McClelan and Robert Harris administrators of John McEachran, deceased, of the county and state aforesaid the sum of thirty eight pounds eight shilings and two pence current money of North Carolina in part of the said Mary McCachran (now my wife) share of the said John McCachrans estate agreeable to law of which sum of thirty eight pounds eight shillings and six pence I the said Peter huie do acquit and full discharge the said William Harrish, John McClelan and Robert harris,  their heirs executors and administrators and every of them forever by theses presents.  In witness where of I have hereunto set my hand and seal this

sixth day of August 1791.

Administrators--To amount of sales as per clerks certificate produced to

us--422 pound, 4 shillings, 4 pence; Supera credit by vouchers

no. 1  123 pounds, 15 shillings

no. 2  41 pounds, 5 shillings

no. 3 3 pounds, 6 shillings

no. 4--2 pounds

no. 5--1 pound, 9 shillings, 2 pence

Know all men by these presents, that we Hector McCachren and Peter Huea [Peter Huie] are held and firmly bound unto his excellency esquire, governor, captain-general, and commander in cheif of the state aforesaid, in the just and full sum of five hundred pounds, current money of this state, to be paid to his said excellency the governor, his successors or assigns; to the which payment well and truly to be made and done, we bind ourselves, our heirs, executors and administrators.  Sealed with our seals, and dated this 26 day of July.  Anno domini 1791.

Elizabeth Huie married Hector McEachron:

The condition of the above obligation is such, that whereas the above bound Hector McCachron hath made application for a licence for a marriage to be celebrated between him and Elisabeth Huea [Huie] of the county aforesaid:  now in case is shall not appear hereafter that there is any lawful cause to obstruct the said marriage, then the above obligation to be void, otherwise

to remain in full force and virtue.

James Huie, father of Benjamin (the Benjamin born circa 1798 & died 1879):

Someone placed on the Internet that the wife of James Huie in NC was probably Elizabeth Seals. I don’t know why, for, yes, she was bound to him at her age 11 as an apprentice to learn the weaver trade; but the next year he went to court and gave up her indenture and got her bound to someone else.

"... I am sending you what I have on John Huie--not much, but at least we know what became of him. I did have a contact in Australia, who I believe claimed kinship to the James Huie of 1756 in Scotland or Ireland. She was born in one of the two countries, but I have lost her address.

Notes for JOHN HUIE: According to Virginia Jantz's book, John married Lucy in Iredell Co., NC, prior to 1830, because they were on the 1830 census, with no children. -- They moved from there to Kentucky in 1832; the story goes that Lucy drove the ox drawn wagon and John followed behind with the rest of the cattle. This information was obtained from T. E. Swann, Route # 1, Box 147, Statesville, NC, 28677. Burial in Old Concord Cemetery, Calloway County, Kentucky.

[The county seat of Calloway County is Murray, Kentucky, and the county is in the extreme southwestern end of Kentucky.]

In a grave next to Lucy and John is a James C. Huie, son of WH and MA who died April 18 1857, age 7 yrs 5 months and 11 days. If my figuring is correct that would make him being born Dec 7, 1849. This will require more research.

In the Goshen Cemetery not far from the Old Concord, is a Frank Huie b. 1839 and d. 1925, also his wife Sarah L. Huie, b. 1846 and d. 1927. I am sure that these folks are related but will require some proof.

There was a male aged 60-70, in the 1840 Iredell co., census living with Joseph, that we believe to be his father James. Elizabeth's father had already died in Iredell co., on 31 Aug 1829.

Notes for BENJAMIN HUIE:

His obituary, recorded in the Newbern Enquirer dated 13 September 1879 stated "Benjamin Huie, one of our oldest men and a man who came as near attending to his own business as any man I ever saw, died on the 27th ult. at the residence of his son J.G. Huie." H.R.A. McCorkle's diary states that he died about 11 P.M. at the residence of his son Joseph G. Huie.

Benjamin Huie was married twice. On Mar. 5 1825, a marriage bond was obtained in Rowan Co., NC, for the marriage of Benjamin Huie to Levina (Lavina) Cowan. Wilson Hall was the bondsman and Jno. Giles was the witness. Lavina was born abt 1805 in Rowen Co.. She died 7 Jan 1844, her death being recorded in the Aaron Varner Cowen Bible. It is not known where Lavina Huie was burried.

After the death of Lavina, Benjamin started to Tenn. with his 5 children. On 10 Sept 1845, Benjamin was married in Gibson Co., Tenn., to Margaret Betts. Henry Sain was the bondsman, and they were married by D.B. Dickson, J.P..

Buried in Mount Vernon Baptist Church Cem. He married (1) LAMYRA COWAN February 13, 1826 in Rowan Co., North Carolina, daughter of SAMUEL COWAN and RACHEL LEWIS. [That means she was a sister to the Lavinia Cowan who married Samuel's brother Benjamin Huie.] She was born Abt. 1809, and died ca. 1832. He married (2) MARY ROBEY abt. 1834, daughter of JOHN ROBEY and MARTHA DYSON. She was born circa 1808.

Virginia Jantz, a descendant of Lydia Huie (Mrs. Pierce), Virginia of Waco, Texas, told me once that she believed the ancestor of Benjamin Huie's father James Huie was a George Huie, but she could not prove it after much study and effort.

Also, descendants of an Eli Huie contacted Virginia Jantz, and later me, to say their family story is that they, too, descend from our James Huie. This Eli Huie went to Paris, Henry County, Tennessee.

Mary "Manie Mack" McCorkle married Harry Pipkin of Yorkville, Gibson County, Tennessee; finally of Knoxville, Knox County in East Tennessee. Their tombstone in the Yorkville Cemetery lists their children.
