Chapter Thirteen

1.            Daniel Hendricks (buried McCorkle Cemetery) and MacMahan (or McMahon) Excursus

2.           Benjamin Huie of Cabarrus County, NC, then Newbern, Tennessee, 1798-1879, died at the home of his son Joseph G. Huie (buried in Poplar Grove Cumberland Presbyterian Cemetery just east of Newbern).  Benjamin’s father was James Huie of North Carolina.  Virginia Jantz, genealogist, thought the Huie grandfather of Benjamin Huie was probably George Huie of North Carolina but could not prove it.

3.           A Catherine Huie, Daughter of a James Huie [we know Benjamin Huie’s father was a James Huie] married MAJOR JAMES E Kerr in  1833 in Salisbury, NC

4.            Huie-McEachran: Mrs. Peter Huie = Mrs. John McEachran

5.            `````An Alexander Huie married Elizabeth McEachran, daughter of John McEachran.  An Elizabeth Huie married Hector McEachran.

6.            Some Internet records I’ve excerpting showing our family members in Pennsylvania.  I’ve tried really hard not to infringe a copyright, and to give proper attribution to the workers; but I don’t see how old Pennsylvania public documents can claim a copyright.

7. Maury A. Huie's typed pages about JEHIEL MORRISON McCORKLE retyped by Marsha
The following HENDRICKS EXCURSUS is of interest to Joyce Cope Huie and her two children Sophie and Marsha and two grandchildren Jessica and Hunter Cashdollar and one great-grandson PLC Blackwell; and to many other Hendricks Descendants

This is a daughter of Daniel Hendricks and Isabel Pen(d)ry Hendricks  of NC then Dyer County, Tennessee, who were also parents of Daniel Roland Hendricks; and parents of Uriah C. Hendricks, Uriah being Joyce Huie’s ancestor:
HENDRICKS, TEMPERANCE married WILLIAM O. CHAFFIN ON FEBRUARY 13, 1829   iN ROWAN COUNTY BY CASWELL HARBIN. MARCH 3, 1829.
In other words, Temperance Hendricks Chaffin was a sister to Uriah C. Hendricks.  This is a bit confusing, because Uriah C. Hendricks’ 2nd wife was TEMPERANCE (MacMAHON) (widow Bean) Hendricks; Tempe Bean and Uriah C. Hendricks married in Dyer County, Tennessee, but Joyce Huie thought they married up in Indiana (?) .  His 1st and 2nd wives were sisters.  His 1st wife was Mary “Polly” MacMahan or MacMahon, and Uriah C. Hendricks then of Rowan County, NC, married Mary MacMahan in 1833 in Clermont County, Ohio. Evidently her folks had moved up to Ohio Territory by then.

N.C. Marriage Records include this:
RODDY, MRS. MARY AND MAJOR A. H. SNEED married in WASHINGTON, GEORGIA.  NO DATE GIVEN. FEBRUARY 3, 1829.  – Recall:  Violet or Viola B. Roddy married James “Jimpse” Scott and one of their children was “Sade” Sarah Elizabeth Scott (Mrs. Julius M. Huie), Sade living from 1839 to 1893.  Sade is buried in the McCorkle Cemetery, Dyer County.
TAYLOR, MARY AND ALEXANDER GRAHAM married on JANUARY 29, 1829 –One of William McCorkle’s wives, his 3rd   , was née Jane or Jennie Graham.

James Huie, father of Benjamin (the Benjamin born circa 1798 & died 1879):

Someone placed on the Internet that the wife of James Huie in NC was probably Elizabeth Seals. I don’t know why, for, yes, she was bound to him at her age 11 as an apprentice to learn the weaver trade; but the next year he went to court and gave up her indenture and got her bound to someone else.

Christmas 2006 email from Thomas Huie of Ste. Genevieve, Missouri  -- descendant of James Fay Huie, who moved from West Tennessee (leaving his brother Benjamin Huie there) up to Southern Illinois, to Sesser, Illinois.

Dear Marsha,

"... I am sending you what I have on John Huie--not much, but at least we know what became of him. I did have a contact in Australia, who I believe claimed kinship to the James Huie of 1756 in Scotland or Ireland.  She was born in one of the two countries, but I have lost her address.
Best wishes.
Tom "

 Descendants of James Huie

Generation No. 1

1.  JAMES2 HUIE  (JOHN1 HUGHEY) was born circa 1765 in [Mecklenberg Co, NC ?]  [Scotland ? ] and died circa 1840.

Children of JAMES HUIE are:

2.                i.    JOSEPH3 HUIE, b. Abt. 1793, Cabarrus County, North Carolina; d. August 27, 1850, in Gibson, Co., Tenn. Poplar Grove Cemetery, Newbern.

3.               ii.    BENJAMIN HUIE, b. Abt. 1798, Cabarrus County, North Carolina; d. August 27, 1879, Buried in Poplar Grove Cemetery east of Newbern Tennessee (There used to be a Poplar Grove Cumberland Presbyterian Church there).

4.              iii.    SAMUEL HUIE, b. December 05, 1799, Cabarrus County, North Carolina; d. April 01, 1857, Iredell Co., North Carolina.  Buried in Mount Vernon Baptist Church Cemetery.

iv.    SARAH HUIE (Mrs. Wilson Hall),  b. December 25, 1802, Cabarrus Co., NC; d. November 23, 1886, Dyer Co., Tennessee;  Center Church Cemetery; m. WILSON HALL circa 1825.

                  v.    JOHN HUIE, b. March 10, 1805, Cabarrus Co., NC; d. September 15, 1848, in Kentucky; m. LUCY SWAN, circa 1830 in Iredell Co., NC (?); b. November 04, 1810, Iredell Co., NC; d. January 30, 1896, Kentucky.   Notes for JOHN HUIE According to Virginia Jantz's book, John married Lucy in Iredell Co., NC, prior to 1830, because they were on the 1830 census, with no children.  -- They moved from there to Kentucky in 1832; the story goes that Lucy drove the ox drawn wagon and John followed behind with the rest of the cattle. This information was obtained from T. E. Swann, Route # 1, Box 147, Statesville, NC, 28677.  Burial in Old Concord Cemetery, Calloway County, Kentucky.

[The county seat of Calloway County is Murray, Kentucky, and the county is in the extreme southwestern end of Kentucky.]

In a grave next to Lucy and John is a James C. Huie, son of WH and MA who died April 18 1857, age 7 yrs 5 months and 11 days. If my figuring is correct that would make him being born Dec 7, 1849. This will require more research.

In the Goshen Cemetery not far from the Old Concord, is a Frank Huie b. 1839 and d. 1925, also his wife Sarah L. Huie, b. 1846 and d. 1927. I am sure that these folks are related but will require some proof.

JOHN HUIE & wife Lucy SWAN Huie are buried in:

Old Concord Cemetery, Calloway Co., Ky

Marriage Notes for JOHN HUIE and LUCY SWAN:

They were probably married in Iredell Co., NC. because the story goes, that they went to Kentucky, Lucy driving the ox team pulling the wagon and John following, driving the rest of the cattle.

5.              vi.    JAMES F (FAY) HUIE, b. October 30, 1811, Iredell County, North Carolina; d. February 20, 1873, Sesser Illinois; buried in Horse Prairie Cemetery.

[Brøderbund WFT Vol. 5, Ed. 1, Tree #1975, Date of Import: Apr 11, 2000]

William Tinsley Kirkpatrick (W.T.) migrated to Franklin Co., Illinois ,and married Prudence Ann Cook there.  Their marriage is listed in Book A, page 142.

All the children were born in Franklin Co., Illinois.   This family was listed in the 1870 and 1880 census records.

IL Franklin Co. 1870 Tinsley KIRKPATRICK p. 162

IL Franklin Co. 1880 William T. KIRKPATRICK p. 442

They lived in Township 5 South, Range 2 East, just east of his uncles, who all most lived in Range 1 East.  In a map of Franklin County made about 1875, the only Kirkpatrick home shown is of a W.T. KIRKPATRICK in Section 11 of Range 2 East.

Emma Gail Kirkpatrick-Tompkins had his wife as ? Wilkey.  This could have been a second wife; I am not sure. (but Bill Brunson questioned her last name of Cook).

[End of information written by Thomas Huie of Ste. Genevieve, Missouri]

Virginia Jantz, a descendant of Lydia Huie (Mrs. Pierce), Virginia of Waco, Texas, told me once that she believed the ancestor of Benjamin Huie's father James Huie was a George Huie, but she could not prove it after much study and effort.

Also, descendants of an Eli Huie contacted Virginia Jantz, and later me, to say their family story is that they, too, descend from our James Huie. This Eli Huie went to Paris, Henry County, Tennessee.
