Something I read recently indicated that Violet B.
Roddy was living as a child down in
Dancyville, Hardeman or Fayette County, Tennessee, down toward
Memphis. [Recall: "Jimps" Scott had a brother
William Scott (the William
who m. Nancy Edwards Wellborn & begot the 1st wife of John Edwin McCorkle,
viz., "Tennie" Tennessee Alice Edwards Scott) and William Scott moved
from Gibson-Dyer County early in the 1800s down to near Saulsbury near Grand
Junction, Hardeman County, Tennessee. I have the deed on his purchase of
Hardeman County land, which his descendant Annie Glen McCorkle recently
entrusted to me.]
Records
would indicate that the "Jimps" James Scott who m. Violet B. Roddy took
a 2nd wife after Violet’s death, but I'm just not sure about
this 2nd wife business. Elsewhere I've described my confusion over
Jimps's death date. He was born 1810 and I had thought he died in
1872, but he clearly appears in the 1880 census --as "paralyzed" and
with a 2nd wife whose first initial is "M" -- so he must have died
in 1882, not 1872. I'm pretty sure it is he who appears on the
first membership book of the Lemalsamac Christian Church. His children
are in the book, too; but my direct ancestor, "Sade" Sarah Elizabeth
Scott Huie, moved her membership to the Cumberland Presbyterian church
when she married Julius M. Huie, known to have been a Cumberland
Presbyterian. Sade Sarah Elizabeth Scott Huie's children,
though, were members of Lemalsamac Christian Church, viz.,
"Dolph" Julius Adolphus Huie; Howard Anderson Huie, 1870-1935; Bettie
Violet B. Huie Gregory (at least until she married Mr. Ed Gregory of
Newbern who I suspect was a Presbyterian or Cumberland PResbyterian but
I don't know); and Margaret Sophronia FRONIE Huie Thompson, a
Campbellite for sure. .....

an ancestor of the Matthew who married a granddaughter
of Margaret Morrison & Robert McCorke, viz., a Matthew Dickey
who married Mary Thompson (one of the two daughters of Gideon
Thompson & wife née Rebecca Cowden McCorkle).
Mary Thompson (later Mrs.Matthew Dickey) as a girl,
her grandmother Margaret Morrison McCorkle wrote someone,
to Hardeman County, Tennessee, to learn the “taylor” trade.

He married MARY 'POLLY' SCOTT 1764. –Evidently this GEORGE DICKEY was closely kin to “our” John Dickey who married Sarah Robinson; these are still “our people.” I had wondered how some of the children of James Scott & Sarah Dickey Scott got to Alabama before coming to Gibson-Dyer Counties and, in the case of their son William Scott who begot Tennie Scott McCorkle, to Hardeman County, Tennessee. Now, it seems we see an immigration pattern of this Dickey branch.

where he was a silversmith and died circa 1779
